Roblox applies text filtering across the platform, including chat and Display Names. This page covers blank-looking Unicode characters, where they may or may not work, and where Roblox’s rules draw a line.
Best Invisible Character for Roblox
Roblox does not publish an official list showing which invisible Unicode characters work in each field. Braille Pattern Blank (U+2800) is commonly used for blank-looking text, but its behavior can vary by field, device, and Roblox update. It is better to test the character in the exact field where you want to use it.

Why Roblox’s Filter Treats Zero-Width Characters as Suspicious
Roblox uses text filters to block inappropriate content across the platform, including chat and Display Names. Roblox says its filters can also block unrecognized text. However, there is no official Roblox statement confirming that zero-width characters are specifically treated as suspicious because they were previously used to bypass word filters.
Because Roblox filters text in different areas, a character that works in one field may not work in another. A Unicode character should therefore be tested before you rely on it.
How to Set an Invisible Roblox Display Name
Your Display Name is separate from your Username. Your Username is a unique account identifier, while your Display Name is a separate name that appears on your profile and in experiences. Roblox allows Display Name changes for free, but you can only change your Display Name once every seven days.
- Go to Settings and open Account Info.
- Tap the pencil icon next to Display Name.
- Clear the field, paste the copied character, and confirm.
Roblox’s official instructions use Account Settings → Account Info → Change Display Name. Your Display Name must also follow Roblox’s Community Rules and Terms of Use.
Why Your Roblox Username Cannot Be Blank
Your Roblox Username must be between 3 and 20 characters. It can use letters and numbers, with up to one underscore. The underscore cannot be at the beginning or end of the username. No invisible or blank Unicode character fits those username requirements. Your Display Name is the separate field to test if you want a blank-looking name.
Which Invisible Characters Work on Roblox
Roblox does not provide an official compatibility table for invisible Unicode characters. The results below should therefore be treated as testing guidance, not guaranteed Roblox behavior.
| Character | Username | Display Name | Group Name | Chat Message |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Braille Blank (U+2800) | Blocked | Not officially verified | Not officially verified | Not officially verified |
| Hangul Filler (U+3164) | Blocked | Not officially verified | Not officially verified | Not officially verified |
| Zero Width Space (U+200B) | Blocked | Not officially verified | Not officially verified | Not officially verified |
| Zero Width Non-Joiner (U+200C) | Blocked | Not officially verified | Not officially verified | Not officially verified |
| Word Joiner (U+2060) | Blocked | Not officially verified | Not officially verified | Not officially verified |
Even if a character appears to work in your Display Name, that does not mean it will work in chat or another Roblox field. Roblox continuously filters text across the platform, and some text may be blocked as unrecognized or inappropriate.

Common Roblox Invisible Character Problems
The Username field rejects the character completely
This is expected. Roblox usernames have specific character requirements and only allow letters, numbers, and up to one properly placed underscore. An invisible Unicode character cannot be used as a username. Use your Display Name instead.
Your Display Name change is not available yet
Roblox only allows you to change your Display Name once every seven days. If you recently changed it, you need to wait until the seven-day period has passed.
Your chat message with the character gets replaced or removed
Roblox’s text filtering applies to chat and can block inappropriate or unrecognized text. A character that appears to work in a profile field may therefore behave differently in chat. This is part of Roblox’s text-filtering system, not necessarily a bug.
Your account has extra chat restrictions
Roblox uses age-based safety settings and stricter filtering for younger users. Roblox’s current system requires age checks for communication features, and younger users can have additional restrictions.
Your group Shout gets cut off before the character shows
Roblox Communities have separate fields for things such as the name, description, and Shout. The exact limits and behavior can depend on the current Roblox interface and feature rules. If a character is removed from a Shout, try using normal visible text instead.
You copied a Display Name from another player and it will not paste right
A name copied from someone else’s profile can contain more than one hidden character. Those characters may behave differently from a single character on its own. A character scanning tool can show what the copied text contains before you try reusing it.
Roblox Invisible Character FAQ
Can I get moderated for using an invisible Display Name?
A Unicode character is not automatically a violation simply because it is invisible or blank-looking. However, Roblox says Display Names must follow its Community Rules and Terms of Use, and inappropriate content can be filtered or result in moderation. Do not use hidden characters to disguise prohibited content or bypass Roblox’s safety systems.
Does changing my Display Name always cost Robux?
No. Roblox says Display Name changes are free. You can change your Display Name once every seven days. This is different from changing your Username, which requires Robux.
Does this work the same on Roblox mobile and PC?
Roblox accounts use the same Display Name and Username system across supported devices. However, the way a Unicode character looks or behaves can still vary by device, app version, font, or field. Roblox also notes that Display Names appear on Roblox and associated experiences.
Can accounts under 13 use these characters in chat?
Chat access and filtering now depend on Roblox’s age-check and communication systems. Younger users can have stricter safety restrictions, so you should not assume that a character accepted on one account will work the same way on another.
Will a blank Display Name make it harder for friends to find me?
It can make your profile less recognizable because there is little or no visible name to identify you. However, Roblox does not state that an invisible Display Name prevents friends from finding an account. Your Username remains the unique account identifier.
